Sky beaming searchlights lit up the Los Angeles sky as Fashion’s Night Out took over the love for designers, consumers and boutiques. Hundreds walked the local streets and peaked into stores and gallerias to celebrate a night of fashion.
Vibrant and unique mannequin dressed window displays and tall blue pastel doors welcomed fashionistas into style and elegance; Satine boutique on West 3rd.
Framed fine art photography by Micheal Doven aligned the pure white walls with subtle tones and graceful dancers. Large decorative mirrors leaned on shelves and hung against walls as many held hangers against themselves, tilted heads and made their way to the fitting room. Soft accent lighting made for positive vibes and good conversation throughout.
Satine was ready.
Jeannie Lee, owner of Satine Boutique maintains the boutique at its best. Once a smaller boutique just across the street, Satine has grown to what Lee says is a perfect size. Clearly with a night like FNO, Lee is sure to have many new customers in love for such a unique and stylish boutique.
The Satine Label along with Lyst joined for an exquisite tech savy interactive event at the Los Angeles boutique. Ipads at center floor connected many to their portable closets and additions to their personal wardrobe. Elizabeth Kennedy and Hilary Petersen of Lyst were excited to introduce many to the site during the evening. Lyst is a social network that connects shoppers to their favorite designers, new collections and chic looks. Check the runways latest, follow the styles of your favorites, know when the item you want is shipping to your nearest retailer and create your next outfit; Lyst is like your new closet. Fingerprinted screens could show you how addicting it could get.
Candle lit cylinder vases and yellow shoe boxes accentuated the corner piece in the front room of Satine boutique. Alex Davis was all smiles in support of her Cobra Society collection. Satine is currently the only boutique in LA for her boots. The debut designer boots for the Fall 2011 season caught attention. The boots are inspired by Davis’ love for North American culture. Geometric shapes, Moroccan fabrics and beautiful leathers come together for a unique addition to a variety of outfits and every high fashionistas closet. They are each one of a kind, no two pairs in the collection display the same pattern. The collection offers four different heights and three different color schemes. Davis wanted something different and something girls everywhere would love. In her words, “I think I did it.” Girls mingled and complemented boots throughout the evening. “It isn’t a shoe you can say you’ve seen before” said one shopper. Likewise, the boot turned heads and started conversation.
Velvet bracelets, studded necklaces, bangles, sunglasses and scarves fit in for the fall and coming spring seasons. Coral colored pants and Ksubi brand denims took shelf space and tables. Decorative stools lined with bold colors and vintage six button cushioned chairs made for stylish additions. From cool summer transparent to warm knit sweaters, Satine carries styles for every season.
The Satine label is designed by Lee and creative director Kelly Sawyer, who was also in attendance. The collection features beautiful silk pieces of color, elegance and flow. From shirts to skirts, rompers and an everyday plain white shirt, the hands couldn’t keep off the racks of the Satine label.
From laidback and comfortable to upscale and fashionable, the simple black rolling clothes racks held hangers of plenty of flattering pieces, perfect for every frame. From earthy tones to fuchsias, vintage pastel stripes, leopard and brights, there was a little something for everyone. For fashionable footsteps, lavish shoes by couture fashion label Lanvin, Azzedine Alaia, and Rebecca Minkoff adorned the shelves.
Toward the back of the store, neon pink tube lights lit up the words “Convenience Store”, where shelves hold things that Lee brings back from Japan that are uncommon in the US. “Everyone loves Hello Kitty,” she says. Jelly Hello Kitty watches, Iphone covers, mini pancake griddles and stickers are amongst what hangs on the wall full of Sanrio goodies for all ages. Shirts for girls by Milk and Hunny hung against the wall, with colored rhinestones, bows and pretty pearls. For small rare gifts and gadgets, this area had the entertainment of young girls to adults.
Among the camera flashes from the cameras of many who attended stood a bigger flash upstairs. The Snap Yourself photo booth was complete for camera ready attendees fly equipped with cubicles of plastic hats, crazy necklaces and fun props. Excited, many made their way up the blue stairs at center boutique up to snap their photo and print a copy as a souvenir.
Cupcakes, white wine, hors’ d’oeuvres and low calorie cocktails provided by Voli Vodka also held the spirits and mingling of the night.
Men were few in accomplice with friends and girlfriends but boredom was nowhere on their faces. Young girls hand in hand with their mothers observed the expressions and beauty of the boutique. It was evident that everyone who entered, whether it was their first time or millionth time, left with an appreciation for unique styles, a wish list and most of all a delightful visit.
Jessica Alba and husband Cash Warren also made an appearance late in the event. The couple was all smiles as they were greeted upon entry. They made their way to the bar and headed upstairs as Alba and a few friends clicked their way to funny flashes in the photo booth. Alba checked into the Lyst website and didn’t leave Satine without some shopping.
A fun night at Satine couldn’t do without a giveaway. An online styling contest through the Lyst website featuring the Satine Label and Cobra Society was up and running for the night. By designing an outfit and submitting via Twitter or email, entries were judged for Satine gift certificates and merchandise.
Satine has gained attention from many actresses, musicians, stylists and models. Fashion forward pieces from the racks have been featured in popular women’s interest magazines Elle, Vogue, and Lucky.
Satine Boutique was born in 2009. Inspiration for the boutique came from Lee’s love and admiration of fashion. Lee explained her thoughts before opening her store, “There’s expensive and inexpensive, why not have a little of everything?” She understood that there is more to an outfit than tops, pants and shoes. She wanted to ensure that her store provided all the in-betweens. Lee clearly understands that for every fashionista, there are many tid-bits that create an outfit. Whether it’s a small accessory or a few layers, Satine is sure to provide a little more glamour to make a statement. Satine definitely spread the word on style and set a trend for unique during this year’s Fashion’s Night Out event. Bring your credit cards and prepare to fill your hangers.
Fashion’s Night Out was organized by Vogue and the Council of Fashion Designers of America, the struggling economy turned to the annual event which has reached over 15 countries around the world. The high fashion evening brings shoppers together to meet designers, celebrate the glamour of fashion, restore consumer confidence and boost the industry’s economy.
